Southern Ireland 2023

Day 9 Lough Ree

After a long and tiring 6 hour drive, we arrived at Lough Ree campsite which is in County Westmeath, near the north of southern Ireland.  The site is bigger than we have been used to on this holiday and we parked right at the edge of the water with the ducks.  Nothing exciting has happened at this site other than me valuing other peoples motorhomes, slightly out of jealously and slightly astounded that people would spend so much.

After a week on the road, we needed to wash our clothes and Mel knew there was laundry facilities here so duly put a wash in.  it was only when it had finished that someone told her the tumble dryer was broken.  Wet washing and no way to dry it.  Ethel looked like a Chinese laundry overnight and the next day Mel was determined to dry it outside.  The problem with Ireland is the weather.  There is no way of predicting what it will do in the next 10 minutes and for the entire day, Mel rushed in and out of ethel, repeatedly putting out and bringing it in depending whether it was sunny or raining.  I admire her persistence as it all got dried.

The other thing I did here was sleep.  I sleep far better in Ethel than at home and one day here, I slept for 10 hours through the night, woke up, had breakfast, and went back to sleep for 2 hours.  Poor Mel – she was having a boring holiday!
