Day 2 – Apple Farm
We arrive at Rosslare at 5.30am and a few hours’ sleep hasn’t really helped and once we are off the ferry, we find a ‘Supervalu’ supermarket to park up in and return to the land of nod.
A couple of hours later, we feel a bit better and head off for our first site. It is Apple farm in Tipperary and as their website didn’t say what time we could arrive; Mel gave them a call to ask. Her first direct contact with a proper Irish woman was an interesting one. It was as if Mel was saying something completely different to what the lady was hearing. They managed to completely confuse each other but Mel eventually thought we could arrive at any time.
The site was lovely and so, so quiet. There were only around 5 vans and Mel passed the time watching the rabbits whilst I wondered if apple picker was the job for me. However, after watching how hard the workers worked, I decided not. They picked thousands of apples every day and these were turned into everything ‘apple’ related, jam, cider, and juice etc.
The Irish health and safety laws seem a bit laxer than ours as it seemed ok for me to wander around the huge vats whilst forklift trucks charged around. We spent a lovely 2 days relaxing.
