Ethel!
As Ethel is the main star of these travel blogs, it seems rude not to introduce to her early on. Mel and I bought her in the middle of the pandemic as we thought the prices would rise once restrictions were lifted. And we were right as when it became clear that holidays abroad would be difficult to arrange, staycations were the rage and campervans, motorhomes and caravans were the thing to buy.
Ethel is our third “proper” motorhome and the smallest. After several years of driving larger ones, Mel and I opted for a two berth one as it reduces the length. Try driving something which I’m sure is the same length as two double decker buses down a tiny lane in Cornwall and you will understand why we decided shorter is smarter.
She has a rear lounge which turns into a double bed along with the normal small kitchen and toilet/shower. Although, I will confess to never using the shower on any of our vans as we are soft campers and always stay on sites which have amenities. So why would we make our van wet when there are showers on site?
Ethel was born in 2003 but has only done 27k miles which I guess is pretty low. We had her serviced a few weeks ago and the mechanic was in raptures about never seeing such a clean engine before. Initially this made me very chuffed but I now suspect he says this to every gullible women before asking her to part with £600!
Apart from that, what can we say? She is an Autocruise Starspirit on a Peugeot Boxer base. Please don’t ask about the engine size, horsepower or mpg etc as I don’t have a clue and don’t really care so long as she drives us from a to b.
Oh, I forgot to say, she’s beautiful! Although we may be a little biased
